If ever there were a more persuasive argument for nihilism than that of the story of Bill Hicks’ life (save for except maybe Nietszche’s story), I believe that the earth’s population would be homogeneously nihilistic.
Bill Hicks revolutionized stand-up comedy in a way so powerful and so innovative that no one since has even come close to matching him in wit and intellect, though some have tried, namely Denis Leary.
During the early 90’s, shortly before Hicks’ death, Leary and Hicks toured together and were friends, until Leary started unashamedly using Hicks’ material and persona on stage. Hicks, becoming aware of Denis’ plagiarism, once quipped to a reporter regarding Leary, “I have a scoop for you. I stole his act. I camouflaged it with punchlines, and to really throw people off, I did it before he did.”
